XC#5 DH#6 4X#6: World Cup Finals: Les Gets it On! September 7-8, 2002 After the UCI (Union Cycliste Internationale)awarded rainbow jerseys to Kaprun's world champs, the five-race World Cup circuit awarded the crystal UCI trophies to its own champions, the overall points leaders in the series.
World Championships! August 28-September 1, 2002 France was again powerful in the men's and women's downhills thanks to gold-medal runs by 10-time champions Nicolas Vouilloz and Anne-Caroline Chausson and three Americans earned just three medals. DH, XC, Team Relay and new 4X action!
DH #4/4X #4: Telluride Tales July 13-14, 2002 Saturday night's 4X was brutal as the the John Tomac-designed track followed the hill's steep fall-line rather than take a less steep traverse route, thus claiming many victims. The downhill was just as crazy as its track, only 1.2km, 0.8 miles, in length, the rock- and dust-strewn course punished riders with its tricky off-camber turns in lung-searing thin air.
XC #4/Whistler DH: Grouse's Paradise July 6-7, 2002 Imagine racing a XC at full speed with the world's best. You're headed up the fireroad and make a right turn onto a narrow singletrack and up a steep pitch, but this is no ordinary singletrack. It's made of wood and is only two feet wide...
