Kashi Leuchs of New Zealand (Volvo/Cannondale) and the USA's World Champion Alison Dunlap (Luna Chix) were crowned as Mountain Bike Omnium champions of the Telluride 360° Adventure presented by Subaru.

The overall race was a two-day format, with Leuchs scoring second place both days. Short Track specialist Ryder Hesjedal (Subaru/Gary Fisher) scorched to a powerful solo victory in Saturday's short track race, leaving behind Day One's cross country winner Christophe Sauser (Volvo/Cannondale).

With Hesjedal gone, a four-way fight formed between Leuchs and Sauser and RLX Polo Sport stars Carl Swenson and Jeremy Horgan-Kobelski. Swenson flatted out, leaving Horgan-Kobelski alone. The defending short track national champion, Horgan-Kobelski attacked to win a $250 hot lap but was all spent when Leuchs counter-attacked and went clear. Sauser paid the price for the previous day's exertions and fell off the pace.

Hesjedal took the race, Leuchs finished 2nd to win the overall title. Horgan-Kobelski hung on for 3rd. Sauser, meanwhile, was caught and past in the final laps by Frank Mapel (Specialized).

"Alison Dunlap waited for the topography to soften up the field before she launched a savage coup de grace..."

Behind Leuchs in the final overall standings, Hesjedal moved up to 2nd, Sauser dropped to 3rd, with Mapel, and Jay Henry (Specialized) 4th and 5th, respectively.

The women's race proved a simpler affair for the officials. The half-mile course featured a difficult climb followed by a sweeping descent. Alison Dunlap waited for the topography to soften up the field before she launched a savage coup de grace on the third lap. She went clear and soloed to her second victory in as many days, securing the overall title.

The race for 2nd proved more intriguing. Jimena Florit (RLX Polo Sport) powered after Dunlap in vain, before sensing a challenge from the rear.

Sue Haywood (Trek/Volkswagen), Shonny Vanlandingham (SoBe/Cannondale) and Katerina Hanusova (Luna Chix) formed a posse to pursue Florit. The altitude claimed Haywood as Vanlandingham and Hanusova opened a savage battle with each attacking. On the closing two laps, Hanusova, who competes for the Czech Republic in cross country skiing and mountain biking, pushed forward and took a bead on Florit. But Florit hung on and Hanusova ran out of time, finishing third just three seconds behind the Argentinian. Vanlandingham finished 4th and Haywood hung on for 5th.

The overall results were as follows: Dunlap, Florit, Vanlandingham, Hanusova and Mary Grigson (Subaru/Gary Fisher) in that order.
