Canadian Pile-Ups

Those Canucks love a good show, and they got one with the multitude of pile-ups and crashes at the fourth UCI World Cup stop in Monte Sainte Anne. The sun shone all weekend, which made up for the wet weather at the last two World Cup events.

The dowhill featured a punishing, 2-minute course, much shorter than the standard 4-minute World Cup course. Steve Peat sneaked a win, narrowly beating Greg Minnaar, while Cedric Gracia rounded out the podium with third. The first four men finshed within 7/10 of a second of each other.

On the woman's side, Fiona Griffiths won her first World Cup event in the downhill. Tracy Moseley came in at a close second, finishing only .11 of a second behind. Moseley's solid performance earned her the overall leader's jersey.

The cross-country race turned out to be a brutal affair, with a huge pile-up near the beginning of the race. Julien Absalon was able to beat the field and intense heat to win, while Christopher Sauser took second and Roland Green came third. In the woman's race, Gunn-Rita Dahle rode to first while Sabine Spitz grabbed second and Barbara Blatter took third.

In the final event of the weekend, Eric Carter won the men's 4X. Cedric Gracia took second while Wade Bootes came third.

On the women's side, Katrina Miller took the top spot, with Jamie Lilly coming in second and Mio Svemasa taking third.
