The mountain biking freeride trip of a lifetime, the Red Bull's Freight Train tour has trekked across Australia's endless Nullarbor Plain, from Perth`s beautiful west coast, all the way to northern South Australia and finally down to Adelaide. It's a journey to search out some of the world's most remote freeride destinations, some 4,500 kilometres and 16 days of Australia's most wide-open and untouched wilderness.

Aboard the Freight Train were five of the world`s most influential riders to date. World Downhill champion, Nathan Rennie joined fellow Australian and true big hit/gap master Grant Allen on the trip. Also along for the ride Canada's hard hitting freeride ruler Dave Watson and American all-round street riding MTB maestro Aaron Chase made it an international affair. Rounding out the crew was Mike Shaw, the tour mechanic who managed to ride more than wrench, keeping the riders rigs rolling day in, day out.

"The crash shook everyone up, even though Allen was cleared to ride with not much more than a headache. "

Vehicle of choice for this epic road trip I hear you ask? Harriet "Queen of the Nullabour", the Detroit diesel powered ticket to ride the ochre stained dirt of the west in velour covered lounges.

Loaded to bursting point with 40-pound, 8-inch travel hard hitting mountain bikes, full-face helmets, spares and stinking body armour, the trip took off from Perth in what would be an amazing journey across the wide open spaces of Australia's south west. From the orange grove covered hills of Chittering north east of Perth, the first days were spent bombing down the 3 Chilli's downhill track. The riders getting to know each other and generally having a rocking good time, far from the pressure of competition. Heading north to the dirt roads on route to Hyden, the convoy stopped to hit up the first of the big gaps and jumps planned which brought a harsh reality check for all on the trip. Allen landing harshly from a 50-foot gap at speed gone wrong, resulting in a knockout. The crash shook everyone up, even though Allen was cleared to ride with not much more than a headache.

Next stops included, Mother Earths amazing Wave Rock that saw surf like lines carved across its eternal break leaving nothing but a buzz of tyres in the early morning light. A night under the stars at the Breakaway completed the amazing day. The campground surrounded by rugged cliffs and salmon gums that are illuminated by more stars than could ever be imagined. Morning sun saw Rennie and Watson launching up towering rugged vertical outcrops, towed behind the Red Bull KTM in a scene not too dissimilar to the tow-in big wave surfing phenomenon.
