hurt 100 ultra - quick and dirty

here is the quick and dirty on the hurt 100 2007.

krissy ran the most amazing and consistent five 20 mile loops ever witnessed. she broke the course record and came in second overall in the 100 mile race.

i ran well in the 100k race and felt good. after a couple 20 mile laps i knew i could most likely break the course record for the 100k (13:38?) so i went for it. after three 20 mile loops i was in third place overall with matt estes and karl meltzer blazing the pace up ahead in the 100 mile race. for the 100k race after three laps (60 miles) there is a little 2 mile loop you have to do to get to 62 miles (with a big climb up hogs back). before i left for that i heard karl had dropped out after three loops (60 miles). when i returned from my 3 mile loop john the race director said, "great job matt, you broke the course record. only problem is so did karl, and he beat you by an hour." doh! oh well - if you gotta get beat it's ok to get beat (bad) by someone of like karl. roger michal of team mergeo fame was on track for a great 100 mile race when he twisted his ankle (this course was knarly) so he was credited for the 100k because he could not continue. matt estes was literally on another planet and broke karls previous 100 mile course record by almost two hours.

i'll write a better race report later.

today we limp around the north shore, tonight the awards, tomorrow we head to kauai!
